What you’ll do

Lucca is quickly becoming more and more popular among the many tourists who come to Tuscany every year. This walk allows you to experience a different point of view over this area: walking from a beautifully walled town following an aqueduct built by Italian architect Lorenzo Nottolini in the 19th century to Vorno, a lovely little spot with many Tuscan villas. You'll also discover a bridge inscribed with the golden words from which this walk derives its name.

“Wandering through Lucca in Tuscany is like stepping into an illuminated manuscript. The town’s red-orange roofs and spires thrust out of a landscape of deepest green, with cypress-tree brushstrokes and a backdrop of mountains.” - BBC Travel.

We will start our day out in front of Lucca’s train station and walking along the Nottolini aqueduct, we will discover the rich history of these lands.

Making our way through the Tuscan countryside, we will arrive in a beautiful place where history and architecture converge, giving us the chance to step back in time. From here we will continue to walk through a stunning pine forest before arriving in the little town of Vorno.

Having had a break, we will then make our way back to Lucca, finishing the walk with a descent to the top of one of the city’s most famous towers for a 360 degree view of the rooftops.

This walk is part of a two-day trip between Lucca and Pisa. If you are interested in undertaking the whole trip, please get in touch with us! It’s a beautiful alternative way to experience these two amazing Tuscan towns.
